CEA

Also known:

CEA carcinoembryonic antigen

systematic name:

carcinoembryonic antigen

21,000

What sample is required?

The determination is made from a venous blood sample from the arm.

Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

Mainly, for monitoring cancer, both from the point of view of response to treatment and possible recurrences; as an indicator of tumor mass (amount of tumor) and to establish the prognosis and stage the cancer; occasionally after a cancer screening test has been positive.

When to do the analysis?

When the patient has been diagnosed with colon, pancreatic, ovarian, breast, thyroid, lung or other types of cancer. If the CEA is elevated before the start of treatment, its determination is also carried out regularly during and after treatment; occasionally, it can be helpful when cancer is suspected.
