What sample is required?

For the detection of CMV antibodies, the determination is made from a venous blood sample.

Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

If the doctor suspects a current or recent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, or if for any reason he needs to know if you have had such an infection before, for example before receiving an organ transplant.

When to do the analysis?

In young adults, pregnant women, or immunocompromised individuals who have flu-like symptoms suggestive of CMV infection; if a newborn has multiple birth defects, unexplained jaundice, or anemia, and/or if a baby has seizures or developmental problems that may be due to CMV; before receiving an organ transplant.
