The determination is made from a venous blood sample from the arm.

Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

To facilitate the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis; to distinguish between an Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and other diseases that may present with similar symptoms; to assess susceptibility to EBV infection.

When to do the analysis?

When you have symptoms of mononucleosis but the test for mononucleosis is negative; when a pregnant woman has flu-like symptoms; when an asymptomatic person has been exposed to another person with mononucleosis.
