systematic name:

Glucose 2 hours postprandial

8,000

What sample is required?

The determination is made from a venous blood sample from the arm.

Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?

The blood sample will be taken two hours after having finished the indicated meal

Why do the analysis?

This test is done to see how your body responds to sugar and starch after a meal. As you digest food in your stomach, your blood sugar or glucose levels rise rapidly. In response, the pancreas releases insulin to help move these sugars from the blood into the cells of the muscles and other tissues, to be used for fuel. Within two hours after eating, your blood glucose and insulin levels should return to normal. If your blood glucose levels stay high, you may have diabetes.

When to do the analysis?

When you have symptoms suggestive of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia and monitor blood glucose values in diabetics.
