The determination is made from a venous blood sample from the arm.

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

To diagnose the cause of acute hepatitis, usually as part of an acute hepatitis profile, to identify the type of hepatitis virus that is causing the infection. Sometimes, to assess the need to vaccinate against hepatitis A.

When to do the analysis?

If signs or symptoms of acute hepatitis appear, such as jaundice, or if there has been exposure to the hepatitis A virus (HAV).
