Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

To detect and diagnose hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and to monitor treatment of the infection.

When to do the analysis?

If you have signs or symptoms of an HBV infection (jaundice); if immunosuppressive treatment or chemotherapy is planned and may have been exposed to HBV; if you are being treated for an HBV infection, or when you have been in contact with fluids during sexual intercourse.
