The determination is made from a venous blood sample.

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

To evaluate and monitor the rate of bone formation and resorption; to monitor some diseases of bone metabolism such as osteoporosis; to detect Paget's disease.

When to do the analysis?

When a densitometry shows a decrease in bone density; in cases of loss of bone mass, before starting treatment and periodically during it, in order to assess its efficacy and to determine if bone destruction decreases or if the rate of bone formation increases.
