Why do the analysis?

To evaluate the production of insulin by the beta cells of the pancreas or to help establish the cause of hypoglycemia.

When to do the analysis?

If you have diabetes and the doctor wants to establish if you are producing enough insulin; if considering supplementing oral medication with injected insulin and also making the decision to treat a person with an insulin delivery pump; also to know if you are resistant to the action of insulin. The physician may also order C-peptide if the individual has documented hypoglycemia.
