What sample is required?
The determination is made from a venous blood sample, or by pricking a finger ingesting water.
Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?
Normally you will be told to fast for 12 to 14 hours before the test; only water intake is allowed.
Why do the analysis?
To establish the risk of developing cardiovascular disease; to monitor treatment.
When to do the analysis?
For monitoring purposes: at regular intervals when there are risk factors, when previous results have revealed alterations indicative of risk, and/or to monitor the efficacy of the treatment.
