What sample is required?

The determination is made from a venous blood sample.

Is some kind of prior preparation necessary?

For this test you do not need any special preparation.

Why do the analysis?

To know if there is a vitamin D deficiency; in case of being treated with vitamin D, to determine if vitamin D supplements are appropriate.

When to do the analysis?

If abnormal concentrations of calcium, phosphorus and/or parathyroid hormone are present; in case of presenting evidence of bone disease or weakness; if the doctor suspects that there may be a vitamin D deficiency; prior to starting treatment due to the presence of osteoporosis or to monitor treatment for vitamin D deficiency.
